Ron Green, Sr., has covered the Masters for The Charlotte News and The Charlotte Observer for the last 53 years. His book, Shouting at Amen Corner (1999), is a compilation of Green’s best articles and commentaries from the Masters dating back to 1955. A winner of numerous national journalism awards, Green was honored by the PGA with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 50 years with the News, where he served as sports editor for several years, and The Charlotte Observer, Green, in addition to the Masters, has covered 24 Super Bowls, 26 NCAA Men’s Final Fours, 40 ACC basketball championship tournaments, 27 U.S. Open golf tournaments and dozens of other professional golf tournaments, four Summer Olympics, the World Series, Ryder Cup Matches, British Open, U.S. Tennis Open, stock car races, dozens of bowl games, a heavyweight championship fight, National Basketball Association playoffs, Major League Baseball All-Star Game and many other events.

The honors keep coming for the highly talented scribe, who retired in 1999.  In addition to the PGA of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award, he has been inducted into the North Carolina Journalism Hall of Fame, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame, N.C. Sports HOF and the Garinger (formerly Central) High School Hall of Fame and has won numerous awards in national and regional competitions, including selection as North Carolina Sports Writer of the Year on six occasions. An avid golfer, he was once golfing champion of the Golf Writers Association of America.

His commentary has informed and entertained millions and helped shape the world of sports.
