the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announces 2021 charitable donation

$2 million mark eclipsed for fourth consecutive year for Nationwide Children’s Hospital through alliance with Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation

Dublin, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today that the 46th playing of the prestigious invitational, concluded June 6, 2021, raised $2,550,000 for Nationwide Children’s Hospital through an alliance with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. It is the fourth consecutive year the Tournament’s charitable giving total has topped $2 million. Since its inception in 1976, the Memorial has eclipsed $41 million in donations to central Ohio charities, with nearly $29 million going to Nationwide Children’s.

“Charitable giving has been a driving force for the Memorial from its beginning,” said executive director Dan Sullivan. “We are thrilled the Tournament has been successful in growing its commitment to the local community and charity, especially its more than 46-year relationship with Nationwide Children’s Hospital. 2021 was another impactful year in charitable giving, including surpassing the $2 million mark to Nationwide Children’s as our primary beneficiary for a fourth straight time. Also central to the Memorial’s successful charitable campaign is the shared philanthropic vision with longtime sponsor Nationwide and new presenting sponsor Workday, and we are excited to build and cultivate those relationships over the coming years.”

“Additionally, the Memorial’s proud and long-standing history of charitable giving in central Ohio and beyond is exhibited by the Tournament’s volunteer corps, in particular the members of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Committee and the over 2,000 Nationwide Children’s volunteers. This dedicated and selfless workforce is an essential ingredient in making the Memorial one of the top tournaments on the PGA TOUR and a must-attend event in central Ohio.”

True to the hearts of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday includes as one of its primary objectives a genuine focus on charitable giving. Embodied in the Memorial’s enduring relationship with Nationwide Children’s and support of its Memorial Tournament Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - along with the Tournament’s new partnership with the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation - the support, care, and growth of children is at the center of each campaign and event these entities jointly execute.

“The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is a national sports gem that generously helps Nationwide Children’s Hospital continue its mission of creating best outcomes for children everywhere,” said Tim Robinson, CEO, Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “It is a true testament to the work of the Memorial and Nationwide teams, together with Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, who were able to raise over $2.5 million for the hospital this year. Your support, and these annual donations are instrumental in the hospital’s ability to deliver the highest quality of care to those living in our community and around the world, regardless of their ability to pay.”

Nationwide, which served as the Tournament’s presenting sponsor from 2011 to 2021, shares a similar tradition of support for Nationwide Children’s. Nationwide is committed to broadening the impact of its continued relationship with the Memorial Tournament to bring greater awareness and increased funding to Nationwide Children’s and to those who benefit the most – families and children in need of care.

“Nationwide has great pride in partnering with the Memorial Tournament to shine a spotlight on the life-saving work taking place at Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” said Ramon Jones, Nationwide Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.“For more than a decade as presenting sponsor, Nationwide had the chance to showcase a world-class PGA TOUR event and make a difference in the lives of countless kids and families who have been served by Nationwide Children’s - to the tune of nearly $20 million in charitable giving. As we transition to a meaningful new partnership with the Tournament, we remain steadfast in our commitment to raising funds and promoting the inspiring stories of the hospital’s patients, doctors and staff for years to come.”

The 2022 Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is May 30 – June 5 at world-renown Muirfield Village Golf Club.
