Two-time winner Patrick Cantlay to be joined at the upcoming the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday by past Memorial and major winner Hideki Matsuyama, rising star Sahith Theegala and fan favorite Tommy Fleetwood to highlight early commitments

DUBLIN, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today that the Tournament has accepted entries from two-time Memorial Tournament winner Patrick Cantlay, fellow Memorial winner and major champion Hideki Matsuyama, rising star Sahith Theegala and fan favorite Tommy Fleetwood to compete in the 49^th edition of the PGA TOUR Signature Event hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is June 3-9 at world-renowned Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Cantlay, 32, will be making his eighth start at Muirfield Village Golf Club, where he has twice won the Memorial Tournament, in 2019 and 2021. He picked up four of his eight career PGA TOUR victories during his 2020-2021 season and finished atop the leaderboard in the final two events in the FedExCup playoffs at the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship. Cantlay’s career-best year culminated with the FedExCup title, the Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA TOUR Player of the Year, and his first Ryder Cup appearance. Cantlay has carried that momentum forward with a combined 24 top-10 finishes the past two-plus seasons, including two wins and five runner-up finishes, three of which were playoff losses—one to Scottie Scheffler in the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, one to Jordan Spieth in the 2022 RBC Heritage and the other to Lucas Glover in the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship. Cantlay landed inside the top-10 in FedExCup points (ranked No. 5) for a third consecutive year in 2023. He is currently ranked No. 8 in the world and No. 10 in FedExCup points with a total of five top-25 finishes over nine starts this season, including T3 at last week’s RBC Heritage, T4 at The Genesis Invitational and T11 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The former UCLA Bruin ranks first in scoring average at the Memorial Tournament with a 70.32 average, and his career Tournament earnings of $4,659,266 is second all-time behind five-time winner Tiger Woods.

Matsuyama, 32, recorded his breakout win on the PGA TOUR in 2014 with his victory at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. With the title, he became the Memorial’s youngest winner and first Japanese player to hoist the trophy. This year will mark Matsuyama’s 11^th appearance at the Memorial Tournament, where he has enjoyed three top-10 finishes to go with $2,131,065 in earnings and a 71.28 scoring average. In 2021, Matsuyama became the first Japanese male to win a major championship with his victory at the Masters Tournament. He recorded two victories the following season and added another this year at The Genesis Invitational to bring his career PGA TOUR win total to nine. Matsuyama has grabbed three top-10 finishes this season over 10 starts and is currently ranked No. 15 in the world and No. 6 in FedExCup points. His three top-10s came during a stretch of four tournaments where Matsuyama’s worst finish was T12.

Theegala, 26, will be making his fourth start at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. He recorded his best finish at the Memorial in 2022 with a T5 effort and has earned $510,303 to go with a 72.33 scoring average at Muirfield Village Golf Club. The California native is one of the PGA TOUR’s rising young stars. Theegala is coming off a career season in 2023 comprised of eight top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place showing at the Masters Tournament (his best finish in a major), a runner-up effort at the RSM Classic, and his first PGA TOUR victory at the Fortinet Championship. He has continued his inspired play this season with five top-10s over 11 starts with a runner-up outing to start the year at The Sentry and another second-place effort at the RBC Heritage last week. Theegala currently sits at No. 12 in the world and No. 4 in FedExCup points. 

Fleetwood, 33, is coming off the best PGA TOUR season of his 14-year professional career. His nine top-10 finishes, including a runner-up and two third-place efforts, led to more than $6.5 million in earnings and a No. 6 finish in the final FedExCup standings. Fleetwood has continued to shine in 2024 with three top-10s over eight starts, a T3 at the Masters Tournament earlier this month among them for his best finish at Augusta National. The Southport, England native has collected eight international career victories to go with five second place finishes and 36 top-10s on the PGA TOUR. Fleetwood will be making his third start at the Memorial Tournament this June. His previous two appearances came in 2015 and 2017 when he failed to make the cut.

Children 15 and under can attend the Tournament for free with a ticketed adult. Daily practice round tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are also available. The cost is $60, and they are valid for all three practice-round days.
