Bill Campbell, one of America’s most celebrated amateur golfers, won 30 tournaments in his career, including the North and South Amateur four times, the 1964 U.S. Amateur Championship, and the 1979 and 1980 U.S. Senior Amateur Championships.  As a member of eight U.S. Walker Cup Teams, Campbell never lost a singles match, and he served as captain of the team in 1955.  In 1956, the United States Golf Association awarded him the Bob Jones Award.  Campbell was USGA president in 1982 and 1983.  In 1987, he was captain of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, becoming the first American to head both of golf’s major governing bodies, the
USGA and R&A.
