Cleveland, Ohio (May 12, 1962)
Fascinated at a young age by the written word, from poetry to sports journalism, David Shedloski opted to pursue a career composing sentences instead of stanzas, and eventually he focused his attention solely on writing about golf.
“I always liked the way great writers put words together,” Shedloski said. “I thought of it as art, like painting a great portrait. I wanted to be able to do that.”
Shedloski is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Troy, Ohio, before graduating from Miami (Ohio) University in 1984. Shedloski spent 11 years working in daily newspapers and covering Ohio State football among other sports before embarking on a freelance writing career devoted to golf in 1995. He has contributed to a number of media outlets in the game, including Golfweek and golf.com, and his byline has found a permanent home at Golf Digest since 2008.
Meanwhile, Shedloski also began writing books and most notably has collaborated with two of the game’s legends: Jack Nicklaus, his boyhood idol, and Arnold Palmer. His first effort came in 2000 with “Golden Twilight: Jack Nicklaus in his Final Championship Season,” which chronicled Nicklaus’ final year playing in all four majors. In 2005, he co-authored a book with Nicklaus, “Memories and Mementos from Golf’s Golden Bear.” A decade later, Palmer asked for Shedloski’s help with his final memoir. “A Life Well Played: My Stories,” was released in October 2016, just weeks after Palmer died. It debuted on the New York Times bestseller list, while the Wall Street Journal later chose it Best Sports Biography of the Year.
In addition to contributing to Golf Digest, Shedloski has served as editorial director of The Memorial, the official magazine of the Memorial Tournament, since 2007. He has received 18 awards from the Golf Writers Association of America, including three first-place honors. He was inducted into the Troy Hall of Fame in 2015.
Shedloski is the father of two children, Alexander and Elizabeth. He lives in New Albany, Ohio.
