the Memorial Tournament strengthens Green efforts

     “The Memorial has continued to work hard over the past several years to build a Green platform that allows for the disposal of the nearly 100 tons of waste produced each year,” said executive director Dan Sullivan. The Tournament recognizes its responsibility to the central Ohio community to keep the environment safe and clean. Together with SWACO we continue to grow our efforts and produce results that can make everyone proud.”

      “SWACO is proud to partner with the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance as it dedicates itself to an increased commitment on sustainability, “said Ron Mills, Executive Director of SWACO. “ In 2009 the Tournament began that dedication by placing recycling containers throughout the golf course.  As an added convenience this year, SWACO will provide extra recycling containers that can be used by patrons in the parking lots and Tournament entrance gates. We believe this commitment to environmental leadership by the Memorial has the potential to become a model for all events on the PGA Tour to follow.”

      As a function of the Tournament’s Green initiative all trash bags, signage and recycling receptacles used for the Memorial are made from biodegradable materials.
