Billy Casper won 51 titles on the American tour including two U.S. Open championships and one Masters, plus numerous international events, among them the 1975 Italian and 1977 Mexican Opens. He played on seven U.S. Ryder Cup teams between 1961 and 1973, and captained in 1979. A very consistent golfer, Casper won at least one event between 1956 to 1971, and was never lower than 12th on the money list, including eleven years in the top five. He was the second golfer to surpass the $1 million mark in earnings, and was named Player of the Year in 1966 and 1970.

The most enduring memory for those who watched him and competed against him in his prime was Casper’s air of complete command, the serene assurance of the supremely confident athlete who knew he would be at his best when it all mattered.
