Defending Winner

Sent on Monday, June 02, 2014

Matt Kuchar, steady as always despite tough, windy conditions, won his sixth PGA TOUR title last year with a two-shot victory over Kevin Chappel in the 2013 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance.

Just one week after being unable to hold onto the 54-hole lead in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Kuchar confidently held the lead throughout the final round of the 38th edition of the Memorial Tournament to hold off Kevin Chappell. A former U.S. Amateur champion, Kuchar, 35, fired a closing 4-under-par 68 and completed 72 holes at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 12-under 276.

Chappel birdied three of the last four and also shot a 68 for solo second place, while Kyle Stanley was third with 71-281.

Kuchar earlier in the year had won the World Golf Championship-Accenture Match Play Championship. His Memorial victory gave him multiple wins in a season for the first time in his career.

Kuchar recently shared his thoughts on his win last year. Call it a quick nine:
