Top 10 in FedExCup standings coming to Muirfield Village Golf Club
Badges remain available until midnight
Dublin, Ohio – At 6:00 p.m. EDT Tournament Officials announced the final playing field for the 2017 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson leads a contingent of 120 players for the 42nd edition of the prestigious invitational Jack Nicklaus started in 1976.
The 2017 Memorial Tournament begins Monday, May 29 at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The list of entrants includes seven of the top-10 from the Official World Golf Ranking: No. 1 Dustin Johnson, No. 3 Jason Day, No. 4 Hideki Matsuyama (2014 Memorial winner), No. 7 Jordan Spieth, No. 8 Adam Scott, No. 9 Justin Rose (2010 Memorial winner) and No. 10 Rickie Fowler. The 2017 field also boasts all of the top 10 in FedExCup points standings.
In addition to Rose and Matsuyama, seven past winners of the Memorial Tournament will be returning to Muirfield Village Golf Club, including K.J. Choi, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, David Lingmerth, Carl Pettersson, Vijay Singh and William McGirt, the 2016 winner.
"I am pleased and excited to welcome so many of the game's top players to Muirfield Village Golf Club, and I look forward to a great week of competition that the fans of Central Ohio will enjoy,” said Tournament Founder and Host Jack Nicklaus. “The best players in the world have always supported the Memorial Tournament, and certainly this year is no different.
“We also look forward to the opportunity Wednesday to honor my good friend Greg Norman, as well as three fine individuals from the past in Ken Venturi, Harvie Ward and Tony Lema. Underlining great golf and a commitment to honor those who have contributed so much to the game is our mission to raise needed money for Nationwide Children's Hospital, through our alliance with the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation. The support of these great players and the fans of Central Ohio allow us to make a difference in the lives of children and the families who love them.”
In related news, world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who previously committed to the Tournament, has had to pull out due to a nagging rib injury.
“It’s disappointing to miss the Memorial Tournament,” McIlroy said. “This Tournament attracts such a stellar field, and I was excited to try and better my 4th place finish from last year. The Memorial Tournament is one of the best TOUR stops of the year and I hope everyone involved has a great week"
