Major champion and Workday brand ambassador Matt Fitzpatrick joins field at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday

DUBLIN, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today that the Tournament has accepted the entry of Workday brand ambassador and 2022 U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick to compete in the 2025 Memorial Tournament.

Joining Fitzpatrick in the 50th playing of the PGA TOUR Signature Event, hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, will be Memorial Tournament winners Patrick Cantlay and Hideki Matsuyama.

The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is May 26–June 1 at the world-renowned Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Fitzpatrick, 30, has finished in the top-10 on the PGA TOUR 34 times since turning professional in 2014, including 19 since 2022. The Sheffield, England, native grabbed his first PGA TOUR title and first major championship win in 2022 in the 122nd U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. With the victory, Fitzpatrick joined Jack Nicklaus as the only players to have won a U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur at the same venue. Fitzpatrick won the U.S. Amateur in 2013. He recorded his second TOUR win in a playoff victory over Jordan Spieth at the 2023 RBC Heritage. His best Memorial Tournament result came in 2020 when he finished third and led the field in scrambling (19 of 26). Fitzpatrick has grabbed two more Memorial Tournament top-10s over his last two starts in 2023 (T-9) and 2024 (T-5) to improve his career scoring average to 72.10 and earnings to $1,971,748.67 over his six starts at Muirfield Village Golf Club. The three-time European Ryder Cup team member’s resume includes eight international victories.

Cantlay, 33, will be making his ninth start at Muirfield Village Golf Club, where he has twice won the Memorial Tournament, in 2019 and 2021. He picked up four of his eight career PGA TOUR victories during his 2020-2021 season and finished atop the leaderboard in the final two events in the FedExCup playoffs at the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship. Cantlay’s career-best year culminated with the FedExCup title, the Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA TOUR Player of the Year, and his first Ryder Cup appearance. Cantlay has carried that momentum forward with a combined 28 top-10 finishes the past three-plus seasons, including two wins and five runner-up finishes, three of which were playoff losses. Cantlay landed inside the top-20 in FedExCup points for a fourth consecutive year in 2024. He is currently ranked No. 16 in the world and No. 27 in FedExCup points with a total of five top-25 finishes over nine starts this season, including two top-5s, at The American Express and The Genesis Invitational. The former UCLA Bruin ranks fourth in career scoring average at the Memorial Tournament with a 70.67 average, and his career Tournament earnings of $4,659,266 is third all-time behind five-time winner Tiger Woods (2) and 2024 winner Scottie Scheffler (1).

Matsuyama, 33, recorded his breakout win on the PGA TOUR in 2014 with his victory at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. With the title, he became the Memorial’s youngest winner and first Japanese player to hoist the trophy. This year will mark Matsuyama’s 12th appearance at the Memorial Tournament, where he has enjoyed four top-10 finishes to go with $2,710,065 in earnings and a 71.33 scoring average. In 2021, Matsuyama became the first Japanese male to win a major championship with his victory at the Masters Tournament. He recorded back-to-back two-win campaigns the following two seasons and added another victory this year at The Sentry to bring his career PGA TOUR win total to 11. Matsuyama has grabbed six top-25 finishes this season over 10 starts and is currently ranked No. 7 in the world and No. 15 in FedExCup points.

The Tournament also announced today the return of the Military Outpost presented by JobsOhio. This on-course destination, designed to recognize and honor Ohio’s military service men and women, is located next to the 13th green and offers complimentary refreshments for all military¾active, reserve and veterans. The Outpost will be open each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Wednesday, May 28. A military ID is required for entry.

In addition to partnering with the Memorial Tournament through the presentation of the Military Outpost, JobsOhio will also join the Tournament in hosting a Military Appreciation Brunch at the Memorial on Wednesday, May 28, in association with the Tournament’s Salute to Service Day. The brunch will host a group of invited active service men and women and feature an appearance by Jack Nicklaus and 2025 Memorial Honoree Barbara Nicklaus.

Wednesday’s Salute to Service Day provides complimentary access (up to four tickets) to the Memorial Tournament and is open to all active, retired, reserve, veteran military personnel, Ohio National Guard, Gold Star Families along with federal, state and local law enforcement officers and Fire Fighters/EMS. For more information visit, https://www.thememorialtournament.com/tickets/salute-to-service/.

Beyond the fairway, Workday also supports veteran initiatives. This includes Workday dedicating its suite on Hole No. 18 to host Gold Star and veteran families, as Workday and JobsOhio join the Memorial Tournament in honoring the memory of those who have distinguished themselves in service.

The Memorial is also proud to announce that with Workday’s support, it will again host Folds of Honor Friday. The PGA TOUR-wide program was kicked off at the 2024 Memorial Tournament with Fridays across the TOUR, at select tournaments, dedicated as a time to celebrate and recognize those who serve and sacrifice for our country. In support of this initiative, the Tournament and Workday are encouraging patrons, players, caddies and volunteers to wear Red, White and Blue during this year’s Friday round.

Folds of Honor awards life-changing scholarships to families of fallen or disabled U.S. service members and first responders.

"The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is proud to partner with JobsOhio and Folds of Honor to recognize and honor Ohio’s military service men and women,” said Tournament Executive Director Dan Sullivan. “The programs we are offering through the Appreciation Brunch and Military Outpost, Workday’s expanded outreach and the return of Folds of Honor Friday will provide an opportunity for many service men and women to enjoy the Memorial Tournament and interact with others within the military community, and with those who support the military. We are looking forward to a great week.”

One of the primary objectives of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday remains a genuine philanthropic focus. The 2024 Memorial Tournament raised over $4.8 million for charitable organizations in Central Ohio and beyond, including $4.5 million for the Memorial’s collaborating charitable partners, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. It was the third consecutive year the Tournament’s charitable giving total topped the $4 million mark. Since its first playing in 1976, the Memorial has eclipsed $56 million in donations to charity, with nearly $41 million going to Nationwide Children’s.

The 2025 Memorial Tournament presented by Workday will mark the fourth year in which Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation will be recognized by the Tournament as a charity beneficiary. Eat. Learn. Play. receives general support from the Memorial with a portion of the official PGA TOUR event’s 2025 charitable proceeds benefiting the Oakland, California, based foundation. Furthermore, Nationwide Children’s Hospital—a charitable beneficiary of the Memorial since the Tournament’s inception—and Eat. Learn. Play. collaboratively focus on programs and services that provide access to the resources and support needed to have happy and healthy childhoods.

"We’re honored to return for a fourth year as one of the charitable beneficiaries of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday,” said Chris Helfrich, CEO of Eat. Learn. Play. “This tournament not only celebrates excellence on the course but exemplifies it off the course through its deep commitment to philanthropy. With Workday’s continued support, we’re proud to be part of an event that champions children’s access to education, nutrition, and safe spaces to play—values that are at the heart of our mission at Eat. Learn. Play.”

"The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday has been a remarkable partner to us at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for nearly five decades, said Tim Robinson, CEO of Nationwide Children’s. “Its support is vital to raising funds that help us achieve our mission of best outcomes and health equity for all children, ensuring every child has access to the best care regardless of their ability to pay. We see it every day at the hospital, especially at our Memorial Tournament Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where funds from the Memorial are helping our most vulnerable patients. As we enter year four of the partnership with Eat. Learn. Play., the Memorial’s impact on child health continues to grow as we broaden our reach beyond the walls of the hospital and into the community.”
