Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Statement Regarding COVID-19

The PGA TOUR made the announcement yesterday evening (March 12) that due to the ongoing health crisis, tournament golf – across PGA TOUR sanctioned events – has been suspended starting with the second round at THE PLAYERS Championship through the Valero Texas Open (April 2–5). As a result, we wanted to provide an update regarding the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide’s 2020 playing, scheduled for June 1–7.

Together with the PGA TOUR and Nationwide, the Memorial Tournament is very mindful of concerns regarding the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19. The health and safety of our patrons, sponsors, volunteers, employees, competitors and all associated with the Memorial is our No. 1 priority. As of today, guided by the current knowledge and information provided by World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, local government health agencies and Central Ohio’s leading medical providers, we are proceeding with the planning and execution tied to hosting the 45th Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide.

This is obviously a very fluid situation that requires constant review, communication and transparency, and we are dedicated to all three aspects. Working with the PGA TOUR, we will continue to monitor all directives issued by the State and the Federal government and will offer regular updates over the coming two months -- including the status for patrons at our event and related protocols to ensure the health and safety of all who will be on site in June.

We encourage our fans to stay informed on the developments of the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 through official sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website (cdc.gov) and coronavirus.ohio.gov/. We will provide further updates as new information becomes available.

Message from our Founder and Host Jack Nicklaus:

“This has been a day and week of incredible concern, confusion and frustration throughout the sporting world, and, more important, our world in general. But as it relates to sport, I applaud the decisions made and the actions taken by all the sporting organizations and ruling bodies, and we hope they produce the intended result, which is simply to keep people safe and not expose them to significant health risks. As an enormous sports fan myself, I hope the passionate fan bases behind every sport are able to pause, take a step back, and reflect on the importance behind the decisions made. Until this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is resolved and until things resume with some normalcy, my friends,  please be safe, be smart and stay healthy.”
