World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler set to defend his title at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday

DUBLIN, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today that the Tournament has accepted the entry of 2024 winner and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to compete in the 2025 Memorial Tournament.

Also announced today, Scheffler will be joined at the 50th playing of the Memorial Tournament by two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas, 2019 the Open champion Shane Lowry and popular Englishman Tommy Fleetwood.

The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is May 26–June 1 at world-renowned Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Scheffler, 28, has been a dominant force on the PGA TOUR over the past five-plus seasons. Since joining the TOUR in 2019 he has amassed 64 top-10 finishes, including 47 inside the top-5, hasn’t missed a cut since August of 2022, and has recorded 13 career TOUR victories¾four wins in 2022, two in 2023 and seven in his 2024 banner campaign, with a second Masters title counted among them. Over 19 starts last year, Scheffler recorded 16 top-10 finishes (12 in the top-5). Four of his 2024 titles came at Signature Events, with victories at the Memorial, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, RBC Heritage and Travelers Championship. He was also named the Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the PGA TOUR Player of the Year for a third consecutive season and won last season’s FedExCup title for the first time in his career. Scheffler joined five-time Memorial Tournament winner Tiger Woods as the only player to win the Jack Nicklaus award three years in a row and also became the first player since Woods in 2007 to win seven or more times in a single season. For the second consecutive season Scheffler received the Byron Nelson Award for recording the lowest scoring average on the PGA TOUR (68.65) and led the TOUR in SG: Approach the Green, SG: Tee to Green, SG: Total and Birdie Average. The Texas native also added an Olympic Gold Medal to his resume at the Men’s Golf Competition at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Scheffler is No. 4 in FedExCup points standings to go with his top position in the Official World Golf Ranking, joining Woods as only the second player to dominate the rankings for more than 100 consecutive weeks. Scheffler has not finished outside the top-25 this season, with five top-10s in eight starts, including a runner-up at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. He will make his fifth appearance at the Memorial with three top-5s on his Tournament resume, his last three starts resulting in two third-place finishes to go with his victory. Scheffler’s scoring average at Muirfield Village Golf Club of 70.63 is tied for third best in Memorial Tournament history, and his earnings total of $6,099,820 ranks No. 1.

Thomas, 32, will make his 11th start at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, where he has three top-20 finishes, highlighted by a T-4 in 2017. His scoring average at Muirfield Village Golf Club sits at 72.38 with career earnings of $915,910. The University of Alabama alum is ranked No. 2 in FedExCup points and No. 5 in the world on the strength of five top-10 finishes over 10 starts this season, including twice a runner-up and a victory earlier this month at the RBC Heritage for his 16th PGA TOUR title¾his first victory in nearly three years. Thomas last won his second major and second PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in May of 2022. The Kentucky native is arguably one of the more popular and accomplished players of the past decade, enjoying three multi-win seasons¾with his best campaign coming in 2016-17 with five wins, the FedExCup title and the Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA TOUR Player of the Year.

Lowry, 38, has recorded seven top-25s over 10 starts this season, including three top-10s with a second-place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am among them. He captured his third career PGA TOUR victory last season at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with playing partner Rory McIlroy. Lowry is the owner of 18 career top-25 finishes at a major, with nine inside the top-10¾highlighted by his victory in The Open Championship in 2019 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland and also included a third-round 62 at the 2024 PGA Championship (en route to a T-6 finish) matching the record single-round score in a major shared by Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler and Branden Grace. Lowry is ranked No. 17 in FedExCup points and No. 13 in the world. This will be Lowry’s ninth start at Muirfield Village Golf Club, where his scoring average is 72.54 to go with career earnings of $876,199.80. He has three top-20 finishes, with a T-6 in 2021 his best result. The Clara, Ireland native, has collected four international victories and competed in two Ryder Cups for team Europe (2020, 2023).

Fleetwood, 34, a fan favorite worldwide, enjoyed the best PGA TOUR season of his 15-year professional career in 2022-2023 that included nine top-10 finishes, with a runner-up and two third-place efforts, more than $6.5 million in earnings and a No. 6 finish in the final FedExCup standings. He followed that up with a solid 2024 season that counted a T-3 at the Masters Tournament, his best finish at Augusta National, as one of his four top-10 finishes. The Southport, England native has collected eight international career victories to go with 39 top-10s on the PGA TOUR with five second-place finishes¾two of which came at majors (2018 U.S. Open and 2019 The Open Championship). Fleetwood will be making his fourth start at the Memorial Tournament. His best finish came last year with a T-20 result.
