Folds of Honor Friday returns to the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday
DUBLIN, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today, in partnership with Folds of Honor and the PGA TOUR, the details surrounding the return of Folds of Honor Friday presented by Anduril. The Folds of Honor program, supported at select PGA TOUR events nationwide, will take place on May 30, during Friday’s second round of the Memorial Tournament at world-renowned Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Folds of Honor Friday brings the National Anthem to golf and recognizes the commitment and sacrifice of military service members and first responders who guard our freedoms and protect our communities. It is an inspiring experience for fans, players, caddies, sponsors, volunteers, and Tournament staff to engage on-site through a shared connection and appreciation of those heroes who preserve our freedoms and protect our families.
The initiative, which was officially launched during the 2024 Memorial Tournament, is celebrated on Fridays at nearly 50 tournaments on the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions, and the Korn Ferry Tour.
“I would like to welcome Anduril as the presenting sponsor of this patriotic day,” said Memorial Tournament Executive Director Dan Sullivan. “Folds of Honor Friday has been an inspirational addition to TOUR events, and we are excited to welcome such an important initiative back to Memorial Tournament week. It is an honor to shine a spotlight on the incredible impact that Lt Col Dan Rooney and Folds of Honor have generated for the families of fallen or disabled military service members and first responders. This initiative further enhances the programs that the Memorial Tournament offers through Wednesday’s Salute to Service Day, and provides increased opportunities for the Memorial and our fans to celebrate America and support those that serve.”
Folds of Honor Friday activations will include, but are not limited to, the following: The playing of the National Anthem; individuals at the golf course wearing red, white and blue; and ribbons with pins provided on-site. Moreover, 13 educational scholarships will be awarded in the local market of all PGA TOUR-sanctioned events that participate in Folds of Honor Friday.
At the Memorial Tournament, all are encouraged to wear red, white and blue on Friday as an outward display of unity and an inward commitment to meeting sacrifice with hope for the families of America’s fallen or disabled military and first responders. In addition, Friday morning’s play will begin with a rendition of the National Anthem performed by award-winning violinist and musician, Kyle Dillingham. The special day will conclude with the Patriot Parachute Team, with guest jumpers Tom “Bubbie Broders and Sean Walsh of Good Good Golf, executing a flag jump on the 18th hole as the National Anthem is performed immediately following the end of the second round of competition. Folds of Honor Friday at the Memorial Tournament will also include official Folds of Honor ribbon pins and challenge coins that will be proudly distributed and displayed throughout the inspirational day.
Folds of Honor was founded by Lt Col Dan Rooney, history’s only F-16 fighter pilot to also become a PGA of America Golf Professional. Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen or disabled military service members and first responders. Since its inception in 2007, it has awarded nearly 62,000 academic scholarships valued at almost $300 million. In Ohio, 249 recipients received awards for the 2024-25 academic cycle, equaling more than $1.2 Million in local impact. The need remains great. For the current academic year, Folds of Honor awarded a record 10,000 scholarships. However, after receiving a record 18,000 scholarship applications for the 2024-25 academic cycle, it’s likely that at least 5,000 qualified applicants went unfunded.
"It all officially started here at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday,” said Lt Col Dan Rooney, founder and CEO of Folds of Honor. “I salute the PGA TOUR, Jack Nicklaus, and the Memorial Tournament for their continued support of Folds of Honor Friday.”
“Bringing the National Anthem to the PGA TOUR on Fridays provides a moment of unity that brings together players and fans to recognize the selfless sacrifice of our military, first responders and their families,” Rooney added. “By wearing red, white and blue, and specially-designed ribbons on Fridays, we demonstrate our respect and appreciation for these dedicated men and women. It honors our heroes and their commitment to protect our country and communities.”
Because of the Memorial’s inclusion in Folds of Honor Friday, and thanks to an additional investment in the program provided by the Tournament, a total of 16 individuals in the Columbus area will receive academic scholarships on behalf of the Memorial.
The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is May 26–June 1 at world-renowned Muirfield Village Golf Club.
