Hal & Janine Hoffman
If you’ve ever grabbed lunch at the Pavilion Dining Room, chances are Hal and Janine Hoffman greeted you with a smile, punched your lunch card and handed you a wristband. For years, they’ve been a staple of the Clubhouse Ambassador Committee — and long before that, when it was simply known as “Credentials.”
Hal, now 87, started volunteering in 1988 with his first wife. After her passing, he continued each year in her memory. Janine, now 84, joined him in 2005 after retiring, and the two have volunteered side-by-side ever since.
Hal has served on nearly every committee over the last 36 years — including Scoring, Status Boards, Will Call, Hospitality, Concessions and the Press Room. His favorite was Courtesy Cars, where he enjoyed meeting players and their families.
On days when they are not volunteering, they enjoy sharing their badges with friends from their church. On Tournament weekend, you’ll find them seated at the 18th hole, taking in the action.
With the transition to mobile ticketing in 2024, Hal and Janine graciously shifted from their longtime post at the Pavilion to serve as greeters and traffic directors, never missing a beat.
In addition to the Memorial Tournament, Hal has also volunteered for the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, and Presidents Cup. Now, in their retirement, they call themselves “professional volunteers” — always giving back, especially to causes like Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
In 2025, Hal and Janine will transition to the Volunteer Legacy Committee — a bittersweet but worthy move for two volunteers who embody the spirit of the Memorial Tournament volunteer program.
